Ham and Cheese Stuffed Croissants (Printable)

Buttery croissants filled with savory ham and melted cheese, baked until golden and crisp.

# Ingredient List:

→ Croissants

01 - 4 large croissants, preferably day-old

→ Filling

02 - 4 oz sliced ham, chopped
03 - 4 oz Gruyère or Swiss cheese, shredded
04 - 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
05 - 2 tbsp mayonnaise
06 - 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives
07 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

→ Topping

08 - 1 tbsp melted butter
09 - 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

# Directions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Using a sharp knife, slice each croissant horizontally, leaving a small hinge so they open like a book.
03 - In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped ham, shredded Gruyère cheese, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, fresh chives, and black pepper. Mix until evenly distributed.
04 - Gently open each croissant and evenly distribute the filling mixture inside, pressing lightly to adhere.
05 - Place the stuffed croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
06 - Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
07 - Remove from oven and serve warm while the cheese is still melted.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The filling mixture works with whatever cold cuts and cheese bits you have hiding in your fridge door
  • Day old croissants actually work better than fresh ones because they hold their shape and get extra crispy
  • Everything comes together in about 30 minutes start to finish but looks like something from a French bakery
02 -
  • Do not overstuff them or the filling will spill out and burn on your baking sheet, which still tastes good but looks messy
  • Leave the back hinge intact when slicing or your croissants will fall open flat and all the cheese will escape
  • Let them cool for at least 3 minutes before biting in, the melted cheese turns into serious lava temperature
03 -
  • Use day old croissants, they absorb the filling without collapsing and get an even crispier exterior
  • Grate your own cheese instead of buying pre shredded, it melts so much better and creates that creamy texture we are after
