Mini Grilled Cheese Hawaiian Rolls (Printable)

Sweet Hawaiian rolls layered with melted cheddar, baked until golden and gooey. The ultimate bite-sized party appetizer.

# Ingredient List:

→ Bread & Dairy

01 - 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
02 - 8 oz cheddar cheese, sliced
03 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

→ Optional Flavor Boosters

04 - 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
05 - 1 tbsp mayonnaise
06 - 1 tsp garlic powder
07 - 1 tsp dried parsley

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Without separating the rolls, slice the whole block horizontally to create a top and bottom half.
03 - If using, whisk together Dijon mustard and mayonnaise. Spread evenly onto the cut sides of the rolls.
04 - Layer cheddar cheese evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Place the top half over the cheese to reassemble.
05 - Place assembled rolls onto prepared baking sheet. Brush tops generously with melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder and dried parsley, if desired.
06 - Cover loosely with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
07 - Remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and tops are golden. Let rest 2 minutes, then cut apart into 12 mini sandwiches. Serve warm.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The sweetness from Hawaiian rolls creates this incredible balance with sharp cheddar that nobody expects but everyone immediately craves.
  • Making them as one big slab means zero individual prep work and they all finish baking at exactly the same moment.
02 -
  • I once forgot to slice the whole block at once and tried cutting individual rolls which took forever and they baked unevenly so learn from my mistake.
  • Letting them rest those two minutes is not optional or you will lose all your cheese when you cut them and nobody wants that tragedy.
03 -
  • Use a serrated knife and saw gently through the rolls instead of pressing down to avoid squishing them before they even hit the oven.
  • If your cheese is not melting completely in those last 5 minutes, tent the foil loosely again and give it 2 more minutes.
